Celebrating a Century of Canadian Music


On Sunday, March 10 at 2pm, Dr. Réa Beaumont performs a solo piano recital at the CBC Glenn Gould Studio with a program featuring a century of Canadian music.  The concert includes works by John Weinzweig, Barbara Pentland, Violet Archer, Jean Coulthard, Colin McPhee, Walter Buczynski, Chan Ka Nin, Alice Ping Yee Ho.

John Weinzweig Centenary Celebration Concert


The John Weinzweig Centenary Concert will launch John Weinzweig’s Centenary Year with an exciting, free concert event, featuring some of Canada's most renowned artists. The concert will feature a new commission by Andrew Staniland entitled Dear John.

Montreal Symphony Orchestra


OSM premiere of John Weinzweig's Edge of the World (1946). The Edge of the World: Music for Radio No. 2 is a suite based on music from the 1945-46 CBC radio series The White Empire which featured narratives about northern explorers and was accompanied with a score written by John Weinzweig. Weinzweig's music for this series uses Inuit folk melodies and rhythmic figuring to add to the northern character of the work.

John Weinzweig's Violin Concerto (1951-4) is played alongside Mozart and Schumann symphonies. This Concerto was Weinzweig's first and became a landmark in his career.

University of Toronto Wind Symphony


Includes a performance of John Weinzweig's Round Dance.

Guitar Society of Toronto


Includes a performance of John Weinzweig's Conversations for Three Guitars (1984). 

Queen's University Symphony Orchestra


Queen's Symphony Orchestra performs Weinzweig's Red Ear of Corn Suite (1949).
